I've used ASmallOrange (link) and HawkHost (link), both of which are smaller hosting companies but very, very good at what they do. They have great customer service and seem to have that 'personal touch' so rare in the big companies.
(Yeah, I guess I have a thing for hosts with unconventional names. :) I found these guys by going through consumer reviews and other things from the WebHostingTalk Forums (link), so I didn't try them blind.)
Haha, I was wondering about the whole 'upside down' bit. Thought it was some kind of weird joke linking to some story arc in your books, so I didn't really think about it too much. :D
