For UK Hal fans, and those who want to be

Just a reminder that The Creaking Shelves bookstore in Wigtown, Scotland, is the only place you can get the Hal Spacejock series in the UK.

They're selling imported copies and bundles, and I signed every copy before they were sent over.

If you're interested, here's where you get them (and they do mail order, too.)

Simon Haynes is the author of the Hal Spacejock and Hal Junior series (Amazon / Smashwords / other formats)

I can only imagine that not landing an international publisher would get very old very quickly. The effect international financial problems is having on the publishing industry must seem like rubbing salt into a wound.

Good luck with the next release Simon, I'm sure the perseverance is going to pay off soon.

I find it a little puzzling, to be honest. The books aren't major bestsellers but they're doing okay, and if you look at a series like Naomi Novik's Temeraire where two or three books were released in rapid-fire succession you can see what an effect it can have in keeping a series in the public consciousness (and in bookstores!)

A UK/US publisher with four or five Hal Spacejock novels up their sleeve could hit the market with a new release every 3-6 months for a couple of years, by which time there'd be two more.

As I've said before, UK publishers invariably demand UK + Aussie rights (and preferably World rights), so for them to take on Hal would mean accepting that they couldn't have Aussie rights. Unless, of course, they threw enough money at my publisher...

On the plus side, the longer they wait, the more books in the series, and the more my agent will charge them for whatever rights he feels like letting them bid for ;-)
