Wonderful sets

This competition is now closed, but there's another right here

If you've followed my blog for a reasonable amount of time (say, two or three days), you'll know that I occasionally give away copies of my books.

Today is a bit different, because instead of giving away copies to multiple winners, I'm drawing ONE set of Hal Spacejock books 1, 2 and 3.

Yes, that's what three books look like.

The winner will take the lot, and I'll post them anywhere in the world. All you have to do is leave a comment below telling me why the whole Hal Spacejock thing appeals to you.

I'll give it a couple of weeks, then draw one winner at random. Good luck!

Simon Haynes is the author of the Hal Spacejock and Hal Junior series (Amazon / Smashwords / other formats)

First, the books are funny, second they are kind of an SF treasure hunt because of all the SF references scattered across them and thirdly, who doesn't like laughing at Hal and his antics? :)

Because, basically, I'm a tightarse (is that one word?)

Because I'd rather be reading witty space adventures than coming up with unimaginative blog comments...

Because as yet I've only been able to acquire Just Desserts. We're awfully Hal-less up here in Canadia.

(But I'm happy I was able to get at least one of the books!)

Humour + SF = the greatest literary combination in the universe.

I'm a huge fan of humorous SF, with the Stainless Steel Rat being my favorite of the bunch. I've heard that Hal Spacejock is of that caliber and want to see for myself if that's true.

Because there's no reason for SF to take itself so doggone seriously all the time. Because there are a few shades of difference between "earnest" and "serious." And because I love the earnest and I'm becoming increasingly allergic to the serious.

I've got all three books but I'd sure like to give a set to my brother. He's a SciFi nut from way back.

The books are a unique style.

I've read about your series for a few years now and I've been using your awesome yWriter proggie for just a little bit longer.

I like what you've done with a genre that, I think, takes itself just a little too seriously sometimes. And like m@ said, it's been hard to get your books here in North America.

One: Because Hal's not all there and neither am I. Two: Because Hal might be my siamese twin twice removed!

Well, I've had the series recommended by a friend and I enjoy humorous SF, so would be happy to check them out. Thanks for offering.

Hi Simon!

I've been using your nifty ebook reader "yBook" for a long time now - especially love the soft paper background image you used.

Finding your free and very useful software is actually how I "stumbled" onto the fact that you are a SciFi writer in my favourite catagory - humorous! Judging from the excerts I've read, I dare to put you in league with such greats as Wodehouse, Pratchett, Blayblock - and let us not forget Harry Harrison.

Currently I'm trying to get to grips with your new yWriter3 (can't wait to see V4!) to create a SCI-FI work of my own... The SW is great, just my writing skills are a bit - let us say - pitiful.

Oh, was I supposed to write something about the SpaceJock books being offered as a prize here? Right... So... If I don't win this set of books, then I guess I'll just have to go order them online! (Sadly, not findable in any bookstore here... YET!).

Cheers, and thanks for your great SoftWare!

I have read the first Hal Spacejock book and really enjoyed it. I would certainly like to read the other two books by winning the package....

I've recently discovered your website, and the books have me quite curious. I'd love to win a set of your books. My son and I would thoroughly enjoy the series!

I love humorous SF like the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or Stainless Steel Rat, so I'd love to read the Hal Spacejock Series.

I laffed so hard at Red Dwarf that I woke up the entire neighborhood (including my dead Uncle Bob).
I got's to have em!!!

Hmm, don't know whether I could handle being responsible for raising the dead. I mean, it didn't do Dr Frankenstein a whole lot of good.

Listen you can all just stop bothering to comment because i have the penultimate reason for this quirky software engineer come writer to give me his prized texts. Quite simply, I would have his next child. The fact that I am male and have no gestating organs for a human child (bacteria is another matter)clearly shows the lengths im willing to go.

Either that or I would hapily oil Clunk for a week, that was if he was to actualy use oil. Which means basicly im screwed... (not by you, it would be artificial what ever non choice you decided upon).

Failing all of those reasons (brilliant reasons btw) How about this, he just gives a book then gives me another book and finaly gives me one more.

Then Ill give away the three books once im done reading them to three other people then steal them back and do it again and again at my whim and ... oh look just give me the dam books Simon....

Hal and Clunk walk into a bar. Hal turns to Clunk and says ...

Well, if you want to know the rest of the joke, you'll just have to send me the books now won't you? :D

Unknown said...

Well that is a kool thing to do for your fans, good on ya mate!

Because I love the combination of SciFi and humour, and because I still can't get the books in Germany.

I have the first in the old edition, but three matching one would be so much prettier. The extra one could go to the library so others can have fun, too. :)

I am not actually entering the contest. I would love to say that I just feel lucky enough having won one book- but the truth is that I'm looking forward to saying "and I had to order them all the way from Australia!".

What's better than one Hal Spacejock book sitting on the bookshelf? Why, three Hal Spacejock books cuddled up together!
Badly need a good laugh and three would be better. :) :) :)

Because I still remember when God threw some dirt around to keep the trees from floating around and I still havent had a chance to read a Hal novel! Also, I enjoy SciFi and good puns, I here you have some of those.

a) I am a poor college student who cannot afford to purchase anything more expensive than Ramen.

b) I want to read the books because they look fantastic and I really need fantastic funny sci-fi in my life. I really really do.

c) You are better looking than Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom combined.

Simon Haynes said...

You were doing well until C. Now I'm wondering whether A and B are a load of bull too ;-)

Simon Haynes said...

PS If you want to see Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom combined, you're on the wrong blog ...

alternatefish said...

load of bull? what? everything I say is the gospel truth. always. especially the part about the poor college student. I can provide references. seriously.

and I could call you something mean now, if that would help.

Because the dog fsckin' ate my copy of Hal 1. Just ate it, like a fat kid at a dessert buffet. Even the slow bits.

And he's gonna be hungry again soon. Anything that keeps him away from the non-fiction shelves is fine by me.

mmm, space jocks. That I would have to read to believe. I didnt think jocks were smart enough to spell space let alone be in outerspace

Hal is so funny, and such great book covers,
Im Hals biggest fan, a Spacejock lover,
Now if I could only win these books, Oh the jealousy of my brother!
