Russell Farr interviewed me recently for Ticonderoga Online, an Aussie mag which describes itself as "a ticonderogapalooza of gonzo and quality sf in the tradition of Bester, Waldrop and Womack. Fiction, non-fiction, reviews and interviews. Australia's best sf for free!"

Nice interview. I know what you mean about being inspired by bad writers.
It's amazing what guff gets published, but at least it gives people like me hope!
Re: bad books. It seems that once you have a rusted-on audience the publisher becomes more interested in rapid-fire releases than quality. For example, how would you like to be the editor who suggested that Harry Potter 4 could have done with a trim? Your bosses would go nuts and you'd risk having the author throwing tantrums and upping stumps for a less fussy publishing house.
(HP is a bad example, to my mind, because it's a special case. Kids just wanted more-more-more and another thin book wouldn't have tided them over until the next one. Mind you, the sight of miniature 7 and 8 year olds trying to read a book weighing more than they did was a bit of a laugh.)
I really liked the 1st HP, but the second one felt like reading same book again, and I'm told the 3rd and 4th are the same. I suppose kids like the repitition though.
Great interview. And heh -- I'm reading Arthur Ransome's "Swallows and Amazons" books for the first time and really enjoying them. I was heavily into sailing a few years back, and it's fun to read the series.
Re: S&A - I managed to collect the complete set 'for my daughter' before she turned one.
