They sat on my shelves until earlier this year, when I decided to read them.

If I mention there are almost 3000 books crammed into my house, would that help? And because I'm writing SF/humour I tend to avoid reading that genre - usually because I end up disappointed. Humour is a funny thing, and there are so many varieties. I love out-and-out satire like the Not the Nine o'Clock News calendars, but I own a copy of Fry & Laurie's sketches and the ex-Pythons Ripping Yarns, and put both aside after a couple of chapters.

None of this is supposed to indicate that my own stuff is so shiningly brilliant that I simply cannot sully my vision with lesser works, by the way. I write the sort of thing I like to read, and if I could find more of it I'd be reading that now. If the Hal series becomes a little better known then perhaps people will start pointing to other series I've never heard of.Simon Hayneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02660767551431793439noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10678422.post-84838048467637287232007-08-29T22:21:00.000+08:002007-08-29T22:21:00.000+08:00Woot! Very glad to win, though a little mystified as to why you've never read the Harry Harrison books you own...

Actually, that would make for an interesting post. Your writing obviously is in the same mode as a lot of the stuff you've listed as haven't read or haven't read lately. Why is that? If you're not reading that stuff, what are you reading?

And thanks! I'll be in touch soon.M@https://www.blogger.com/profile/13408488215496128814noreply@blogger.com
